Aluminum tape adheres well as long as the surface is clean, dry, and rust-free. Skipping preparation is the main cause of peeling within a few weeks. These steps ensure a seal that withstands complete thermal cycles, humidity, and UV radiation.

Clean and thoroughly dry the surface

Wipe the area where you will apply the tape with a cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol (or a technical degreaser). Remove dust, grease, old adhesive residues, and rust particles. Wait for the surface to be completely dry before applying: any trace of moisture will be trapped under the aluminum and reduce adhesion.

Measure and cut the required length before removing the liner

Calculate the necessary length, including an extra 3-5 cm on each side for overlap, mark, and cut with scissors or a utility knife. Aluminum foil tears if you try to cut it by pulling it from the roll, so always cut first and then apply. Keep the backing liner to avoid contaminating the adhesive.

Apply from the center outwards

Remove the liner and position the center of the tape over the joint or seam to be sealed. Press from the center towards both ends with the palm of your hand, gradually expelling air. Applying from one end to the other leaves trapped bubbles that grow over time due to thermal expansion.

Compact with a plastic spatula or roller

Firmly press a plastic spatula or small roller over the entire surface of the tape, especially at edges and corners. Compaction eliminates micro-bubbles and activates the acrylic adhesive for maximum adhesion. Do not use metal objects: they will damage the foil.

Allow the adhesive to cure before exposing to temperature

Allow at least 24 hours at room temperature before turning on the HVAC system, exposing the tape to the sun, or subjecting it to intense humidity. The acrylic adhesive reaches its maximum bond strength after this curing time. Applying the tape and starting the system immediately reduces the seal's lifespan to a fraction.

  3. Surface cleaning without aggressive products: The applied aluminum is cleaned with a damp cloth and neutral soap. Do not use strong solvents, steel wool, or metal brushes: they break the foil and allow moisture to enter under the seal.

Can I paint aluminum tape once applied?
