Automated in-line palletizing with continuous flow, without stopping the wrapper every 30 pallets to change the roll, requires a film sized for a machine head with high pre-stretch and mechanical resistance that manual format does not provide. This transparent machine stretch film —also called machine wrap or industrial stretch film roll— is manufactured by Fortemo in coextruded multilayer LLDPE of 23 µm (90 gauge), in a 1500 m roll, designed for warehouses, factories and distribution centers with automatic, semi-automatic wrappers and palletizing robots.

Key Benefits

  • High pre-stretch for maximum coverage: the multilayer LLDPE formulation allows for 200-300% pre-stretch in wrapper heads, which multiplies the usable length per roll and reduces the real cost per wrapped pallet.
  • Puncture resistance: the film withstands sharp corners, box angles, and mixed palletizing edges without tearing during high-speed machine application.
  • Sustained retention force: once applied, the film maintains constant tension on the load throughout transit, preventing displacement due to vibration or braking during road transport.
  • Stable crystal clear transparency: allows barcode, shipping label, and printed lettering to be read without breaking the packaging, a key condition for inventory and logistical traceability.
  • Calibrated differential cling: inner face with controlled adhesion that sticks layer against layer without transferring adhesive to adjacent products or causing adjacent pallets to stick when stacked in the warehouse.

Typical applications and uses

  • Palletizing in turntable wrappers with motorized or friction pre-stretch.
  • Rotary arm systems in high-volume continuous production lines.
  • Mobile wrapping robots for palletizing in hard-to-reach areas or variable configurations.
  • Consolidated shipment of heavy loads (cement, blocks, palletized food) where the film's containment strength is critical for inter-island transit.

Quality and durability

An economical machine film fails in two points: the LLDPE formulation is single-layer or uses low-grade resins (which limits actual pre-stretch to 100-150%) and the gauge consistency is irregular (which produces thin areas that break at head speed). Fortemo works with coextruded multilayer LLDPE of uniform gauge, which separates a continuous professional operation roll from a generic sack that stops the line due to frequent breakages.

Also known as: Technical: machine stretch film, machine wrap, machine stretch film, automatic palletizing film, coextruded LLDPE roll, automatic pre-stretch film. In DR and Caribbean: papel chicle de máquina, plástico stretch industrial, papel chicle industrial, plástico paletizador, bobina de chicle. In other countries: machine stretch film (USA), pallet wrap film (USA), industrial stretch wrap (USA), film de paletizado (LATAM), film extensible (ES), retráctil máquina (MX, CO).

Three key points. Weight and format: the machine roll comes in multi-kilo bobbins meant for an automatic head; the manual roll is light enough to hold with one hand. Pre-stretch: machine film accepts 200-300% stretch in motorized heads, multiplying useful length; manual film yields less due to the limit of human force. Real cost per pallet: machine film is the only profitable option once volume passes a few dozen pallets per shift.

It is compatible with the vast majority of turntable wrappers, rotary-arm wrappers and standard palletizing robots on the market, thanks to a core diameter and width sized to industrial standard. For specific-brand machines, verify the supported gauge range and the factory pre-stretch percentage before ordering bobbins in large quantity. A tension or gauge mismatch forces adjustments that reduce effective line speed.

In practice, no. The bobbin is too heavy to hold with one hand for full manual wrapping of a pallet, and the formulation is optimized for mechanical pre-stretch that human tension cannot reproduce. An operator handling it covers a fraction of the effective coverage. For unforeseen events where the machine goes down, keep stock of standard manual film on hand, rather than improvising with a machine bobbin.

Yes — LLDPE (linear low-density polyethylene) is 100% recyclable and is routinely processed in flexible plastic recycling chains (category #4 LDPE/LLDPE). For effective recycling, remove paper labels and adhesive residue from the used film, separate by plastic type and compact in clean bales or sacks. Authorized recyclers in the Caribbean accept clean LLDPE film. Mixed with PP adhesive tapes or organic residue it loses recycling value.

Store the bobbins upright on their ends, in a dry area at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Extreme temperatures (direct sun in a zinc-roofed warehouse or sub-zero cold) affect LLDPE elasticity and cling. For inventory rotation, use bobbins in order of arrival, since although the film does not expire, cling reduces slightly over time.
