Which model matches each agricultural product?

The practical rule by capacity: the roughly 23 kg (50 lb) sacks for bulk spices, seeds and small flours; the roughly 45 kg (100 lb) ones in B-Twill weave for rice, beans, corn and flours; the 60 kg (132 lb) is the Barahona / ICO standard for export green coffee; the 65 kg (143 lb) is the ICCO / FCC food-grade format for cocoa beans; and the 57 and 91 kg (125 and 200 lb) in reinforced weave for heavy cereals, copra and bulk grain. All with a hemmed mouth ready for twine and Herakle stitching with safety stitch on sides and bottom.

Is it suitable for direct contact with grain and food?

Yes. The sacks come with VOT (Vegetable Oil Treated) treatment, the vegetable oil finish that makes them suitable for direct food contact with grain: cocoa, coffee, rice, beans, corn, spices and nuts. It is the key difference from generic jute sacks treated with mineral oils, which transfer hydrocarbons to the product. Jute is 100% natural (Corchorus capsularis / olitorius) and the sacks are imported from Bangladesh and India under international standards.

Does it meet coffee and cocoa export standards?

Yes. For green coffee, the 60 kg model follows the Barahona / ICO standard usual in Dominican exports. For cocoa beans, the 65 kg model meets ICCO / FCC in food-grade quality. And for cocoa clients shipping to the EU, the MOSH/MOAH report per batch is available in line with the Eurococoa / Joint Cocoa Research Fund specification of February 2026 (MOSH ≤ 250 mg/kg, MOAH ≤ 25 mg/kg); request it when ordering so the batch travels with its documentation.

How should the sacks be stored in a tropical climate?

Jute is a natural fiber that breathes: it allows the grain's moisture exchange, the reason coffee and cocoa are exported in jute and not plastic. That same trait demands proper storage: empty sacks stacked in a roofed, dry and ventilated space, on pallets (never against the floor or damp walls), away from fuels or strong odors, because the fiber absorbs them. Full sacks, under the same conditions and with FIFO rotation. A sack that gets wet must be dried spread out before bagging to prevent mold.

Can they be reused, and what happens at the end of their life?

Yes to both. A sack in good condition takes several cycles of bagging and local storage: the Herakle stitching with safety stitch on sides and bottom withstands repeated handling. For certified coffee and cocoa export, the sector's practice is a new sack per batch, with its corresponding documentation. At the end of its life, jute is 100% biodegradable: it composts or is discarded without leaving plastic residue, an argument increasingly valued by international buyers in sustainable chains.
