Does it also work with PP strapping, or only PET?

Mechanically it can tension PP strapping in compatible widths, but it is not the optimal tool. PP requires less tensioning force than PET, and a tensioner sized for PET can apply excessive tension on polypropylene, which breaks the strap or strains the seal. For intensive PP strapping there is a dedicated PP tensioner, better sized for that load.

Does it withstand outdoor use and open-air worksites?

Yes — this is one of its advantages over carbon-steel tensioners. Stainless steel does not rust from humidity, occasional rain or exposure to the Caribbean's saline environments, which makes it suitable for strapping on open-air construction sites, agricultural yards or port aprons. To keep the mechanism running smoothly, dust and sand should be cleared after days on site, but the body itself needs no special protection.

Does it work with metal or steel strapping?

No. It is designed exclusively for plastic PET strapping (and mechanically can handle PP). Metal strapping requires a different tensioner with a specific friction system and edges prepared for contact with metal: using this tool with steel strap damages the lever mechanism and does not tension properly. For metal strapping, the appropriate equipment must be used.

What sets it apart from a low-cost tensioner of the same format?

The difference comes down to two critical points: the body material and the quality of the lever mechanism. A low-cost tensioner usually uses painted carbon steel that rusts within weeks in the Caribbean, and a lever mechanism with play that loses force under heavy use. This unit uses uncoated stainless steel and reinforced joints, which translates into years of service in professional operation versus months for a low-cost one.

Do I need the tensioner if I'm going to use a battery strapping tool later?

No — they are tools for different scenarios. The battery strapping tool tensions, seals and cuts in a single operation, ideal for high-volume continuous flow in a plant or warehouse. The manual tensioner covers one-off jobs, fieldwork without access to recharging, or volumes that don't justify investing in a battery tool. Many operations combine both: battery for the main line, manual for incidentals and outdoor work.
