Securing electrical cables, bundling wires, fastening meshes, or securing light loads where a definitive and mechanically secure fastening is required, demands a reliable Nylon cable tie with a ratchet head. These plastic ties—also known as tairras, cinchos, Nylon ties, or zip ties—are manufactured by Fortemo from Nylon 66 with a self-locking ratchet head, in four sizes (3×100, 4×200, 8×300, and 10×500 mm) and two colors (white and black), designed for electricians, installers, gardeners, packers, and intensive DIY home use.

Key Benefits

  • Professional-grade Nylon 66: The material combines mechanical strength with calibrated flexibility, withstanding tension without breaking and allowing it to curve around irregular objects without losing grip.
  • Permanent self-locking ratchet: The head is sized to bite the strap definitively, maintaining tension without the possibility of loosening due to vibration, ambient heat, or the passage of time.
  • UV-stable black for outdoors: The black version incorporates carbon pigment that protects against solar radiation, extending the lifespan in applications exposed to Caribbean sun for years.
  • White version for interiors and coding: The white version performs better in interior applications and allows for visual coding of electrical installations, data networks, or gardening systems with various colors.
  • Four sizes for any tying diameter: From 3×100 mm for thin cables to 10×500 mm for bundling pipes or thick structures.

Typical Applications and Uses

  • Residential and commercial electrical installations: cable bundling, fastening to trays, panel organization.
  • Data and telecommunications networks: structured cabling, server racks, fiber optic and copper installations.
  • Gardening and agriculture: plant support, fastening tutorial meshes, securing drip irrigation systems.
  • Packaging and logistics: bag sealing, label fastening, securing loose parts in transport.

Quality and Durability

An economical cable tie fails in two areas: the Nylon is low-density (making it brittle in heat or cold and breaking under real tension) and the ratchet has poor tolerances (resulting in ties that loosen after installation or get stuck when inserting the tail). Fortemo uses professional-grade Nylon 66 and a ratchet with controlled tolerances, which separates a serious operational tie from a generic consumable that breaks in the electrician's hand.

Also known as: Technical: Nylon strap, plastic tie, Nylon fastener, self-locking fastener, self-adjusting clamp. In DR and Caribbean: tairra, tairras, tairrá, cincho, cincho plástico, suncho plástico de cable. In other countries: zip tie (USA), cable tie (USA), tie wrap (USA), brida (ES), cincho (MX, CO), precinto (ES, LATAM), Ty-rap (USA, brand).

Single-use. The ratchet head is designed to permanently bite the strap and does not allow reopening without destroying the lock, which is what gives the closure its mechanical safety. To remove them, cut with flush cutters or shears. There are special releasable models (with an unlock lever in the head) for applications that demand reopening, but they are a different category and of more limited use in gardening and temporary installations.

The technical difference is UV resistance. The black one incorporates carbon pigment that protects against solar radiation, extending its outdoor service life under direct sun to years. The white tends to degrade within a few months under Caribbean sun, becoming brittle and breaking when tension is applied. Indoors, both work the same; for exposed outdoor use, always black. Initial mechanical properties (tensile strength, hardness) are equivalent.

Nylon 66 withstands ambient humidity, rain and occasional water immersion without losing mechanical properties, which makes it suitable for drip irrigation, outdoor gardening and non-permanent marine applications. It also withstands moderate temperatures (typical residential and industrial electrical-installation ranges). For aggressive chemicals (strong acids, concentrated organic solvents) or extreme temperatures, verify the chemical specification of the Nylon or use specific metal or polypropylene cable ties.

Yes — that is a real problem with any cable tie. Cutting the excess with regular pliers leaves an edge with a sharp tip that can scratch skin or damage adjacent cable insulation. For a professional finish, use flush cutters that leave the cut flush with the head with no protruding tip. There are also tensioning tools for cable ties that tension to a specific torque and cut flush automatically — a standard tool for professional electricians.
