Applying strapping to palletized loads with the correct tension without the strap cutting the cardboard or sinking into the edges of the merchandise is the operational challenge of any warehouse. This plastic edge protector for strapping—also called an edge corner, edge guard, or corner protector—is manufactured by Maxtens from professional-grade plastic, and it is the piece that separates a secure and well-finished palletization from packaging that loosens at the first movement of the truck.

Key Benefits

  • Edge protection: The plastic angle distributes the tension of the strapping over the edge of the load, preventing the strap from cutting corrugated cardboard, shrink film, or packaging wood.
  • Strap centering: The guides or side tabs keep the strap in position during tensioning, preventing diagonal slips that loosen the palletization.
  • Greater effective pressure without damage: With the edge protector, the actual tension required by the load can be applied without compromising the outer packaging, which is especially useful for tall pallets or products sensitive to crushing.
  • Broad compatibility: Suitable for polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET) strapping in the most common commercial widths in Dominican logistics.
  • Industrial-grade plastic: Rigid material designed to withstand repeated strapping pressure without cracking, maintaining the angle's geometry over several palletizing cycles.

Typical Applications and Uses

  • Palletization of corrugated cardboard boxes in logistics warehouses and distribution centers.
  • Securing loads of construction materials (blocks, bricks, cement bags).
  • Packaging of beverage, food, and packaged product pallets for inter-island transit or export.
  • Protection of vertical and horizontal loads in moves and industrial transfers.
  • Used in conjunction with manual strapping and semi-automatic strapping machines.

Quality and Durability

An economical edge protector fails in two ways: either it breaks on the first strong tightening because the plastic is brittle, or it loses its angle and stops protecting the edge. Maxtens uses industrial-grade plastic designed to withstand repeated strapping pressure without cracking, and it maintains the angle's geometry over several cycles. It's the small piece that goes unnoticed until it fails and ruins the entire palletization.

Also known as: Technical: strapping edge protector, plastic corner, edge protector, protection angle, palletizing edge guard, strapping shoe. In DR and Caribbean: cantonera de fleje, esquinero para palet, esquinero para fleje, protector de cantos para embalaje, guía de fleje. In other countries: corner protector (USA), plastic edge protector (USA), cantonera plástica (ES, MX), esquinero plástico (CO, AR).
Does this corner protector work with all strap widths on the market?

It is compatible with the standard commercial widths of plastic strapping in Dominican logistics, both polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET), including the most common 13, 16 and 19 mm formats. For steel strapping or atypical widths, validate the corner protector geometry against the strap before palletizing in volume, since a poor fit reduces the protector's centering effectiveness.

What's the difference vs. a corrugated cardboard corner protector?

The cardboard corner protector is single-use, absorbs moisture and loses rigidity at the first rain or condensation; it is the choice for light, single-trip loads. The plastic corner protector is reusable, does not absorb water, holds the angle under repeated pressure and supports higher strap tensions. For logistics operations with high pallet rotation or transit in tropical conditions, the plastic version beats cardboard from the second or third use cycle onward.

Can it be used on outdoor loads without degrading?

Yes — the industrial-grade plastic does not absorb moisture and handles normal ambient conditions without trouble: occasional rain, covered yard storage, exposed transport. For continuous exposure under direct Caribbean sun for months (pallets sitting in an uncovered yard) the polymer can start losing elasticity from UV radiation, so it's worth rotating them or covering them if the operation involves prolonged outdoor storage with no roof.

Is the corner protector really necessary, or can I palletize with strap alone?

Without a corner protector, the strap puts all the tension on the cardboard edge, which produces one of two effects: either you can't tension enough to hold the pallet (loose load, risk of shifting) or you do tension and the strap cuts the cardboard, compromising the packaging. The corner protector spreads that tension over a larger surface, letting you work at the right pressure without damaging the goods. On tall pallets, delicate products or heavy loads, its use stops being optional.
