Sending boxes with delicate products via courier without the operator forgetting to handle the package with care requires a tape that combines secure closure with a permanent visual warning. This "FRAGILE" printed adhesive tape in manual format —also called security tape or message tape— is manufactured by Fortemo from virgin BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) with high-visibility printing and acrylic adhesive, in a 50 mm × 100 m format, designed for shipping sensitive goods where the visual warning reduces damage from rough handling.

Key Benefits

  • Dual simultaneous function: seals the box and labels the contents as delicate in a single operation, eliminating the need for additional adhesive labels and saving steps in the packaging line.
  • High-visibility printing: the "FRAGILE" warning is printed in high-contrast colors on the clear film, maintaining legibility from several meters away and from multiple angles of the pallet.
  • Stable acrylic adhesive: immediate grip on cardboard without lifting during transit, keeping the message visible even when the box passes through several hands.
  • Tear resistance: the BOPP film withstands application tension and subsequent handling without breaking, preventing tears that could hide the warning message.
  • Compatibility with standard dispensers: the 50 mm width and standard core fit any conventional manual tape gun used in logistics.

Typical applications and uses

  • Shipping glassware, consumer electronics, ceramics, and artwork via courier and parcel services.
  • Packing delicate products for residential moves that pass through several hands during relocation.
  • Export boxes with impact-sensitive products in inter-island transit.
  • E-commerce of fragile products where visual warning reduces returns due to shipping damage.

Quality and durability

An economical fragile tape fails in two ways: the print fades with the first friction during transport (nullifying the message) and the adhesive loses grip, leading to partial peeling. Fortemo uses integrated printing within the film and virgin BOPP with a stable acrylic formulation, which maintains both the message and the seal throughout the entire shipping cycle. For products where transit damage has a real cost, the difference is measured in returns due to breakage.

Also known as: Technical: fragile printed adhesive tape, printed BOPP tape, message packaging tape, printed alert tape, printed security tape. In DR and Caribbean: tape de frágil, tape de seguridad, cinta de frágil, cinta de alerta para envíos, tape impreso para mudanzas. In other countries: fragile printed tape (USA), warning tape (USA), cinta impresa frágil (LATAM), precinto frágil (ES), cinta de seguridad impresa (MX, CO).
Does it replace adhesive Fragile labels, or is it better to combine them?

Functionally it replaces the labels and is generally more effective. The tape wraps the entire box, so the Fragile message is visible from multiple angles and faces of the pallet, while an adhesive label only shows on a single face. It also serves the dual function of sealing the box and warning of the contents in a single operation. For very high-value shipments, combining both (tape + label) reinforces the warning.

What's the difference vs. plain transparent tape, beyond the message?

Both are made on the same virgin BOPP base with acrylic adhesive, so the technical properties (adhesion, tear resistance, stability) are equivalent. What changes is the integrated print of the Fragile message in high-contrast colors, which adds a layer of visual communication to the package closure. The choice between one and the other comes down to whether the product needs careful-handling warning during transit.

Does the print fade over time in storage or during transport?

Under normal storage and transit conditions, the print stays visible throughout the full shipping cycle. Integrating the message into the film (rather than applying it on the surface) prevents handling friction from rubbing the text away. A budget tape with surface print loses the message at the first friction against another package in the truck, which kills the deterrent effect and turns it into a normal tape with degraded ink.

Does it withstand humidity and condensation in refrigerated or perishable shipments?

Adhesion and message legibility resist moderate condensation and ambient humidity without losing grip or fading, within the usual range of non-refrigerated logistics. For cold-chain shipments with intense condensation or sudden temperature changes, it's worth validating adhesive behavior with the specific product, since at very low temperatures initial grip can take longer to activate and firm pressure should be applied.
