Closing polypropylene strapping in professional palletizing with a secure, flat closure that does not damage adjacent products requires a metal seal calibrated for the specific hardness of PP, where the aggressive teeth of a PET seal would be counterproductive. This seal for PP strapping—also called a PP metal clip or smooth seal—is manufactured by Fortemo from galvanized steel with a calibrated interior for polypropylene plastic strapping, in boxes of 1000 units for 13-16 mm strapping, designed for warehouses, hardware stores, businesses, and palletizing operations where PP strapping is the dominant format.

Main Benefits

  • Specific calibration for PP: The interior of the seal is designed for the relative softness of polypropylene, which produces a firm closure without tearing the strap (a typical problem when applying a toothed PET seal to PP).
  • Uniform galvanized steel: Protection against oxidation in storage and transit, keeping the seal operational throughout the entire shipping cycle, even in Caribbean climates.
  • Compatibility with standard PP tensioners: Fits with common manual sealing and crimping tools for 13-16 mm strapping, without requiring proprietary tools.
  • Permanent and flat closure: When deformed with the crimper, the seal remains flat and without sharp edges, protecting the operator's hands and adjacent products on the pallet.
  • Controlled Fortemo production: Uniform tolerances throughout the box for reproducible sealing in professional palletizing lines.

Typical Applications and Uses

  • Palletizing of corrugated cardboard boxes in logistics warehouses and distribution centers.
  • Closing packages in hardware stores, businesses, and small companies with daily shipping flows.
  • Bundling of plastic pipes, light profiles, and grouped materials in workshops.
  • Sealing of compacted cardboard bags and regional export boxes with PP strapping.

Quality and Durability

An inexpensive PP seal fails in two areas: the galvanization is poor, and the dimensional tolerances are irregular (leading to seals that deform unevenly with the crimper, leaving some loose). Fortemo works with uniform galvanization and controlled dimensions, which distinguishes a professional-grade seal from a generic consumable that produces unpredictable closures every time the box is changed.

Also known as: Technical: PP strapping seal, PP metal clip, smooth seal, flat seal for polypropylene, PP packaging sleeve. In DR and Caribbean: sello PP, grapa para fleje PP, sello para zuncho PP. In other countries: PP strapping seal (USA), open seal (USA), sello PP (LATAM), grapa para zuncho PP (MX, CO), precinto para PP (ES).

Two tools are needed for full strapping: a manual tensioner for PP strap (which applies the right tension on the load) and a sealing/crimping tool for PP of the same 13-16 mm format (which deforms the seal over the two ends of the tensioned strap). The two tools work together: tensioner first, crimper after. For high continuous volume there is the battery-powered combination strapper that integrates tensioning, sealing and cutting in a single operation, eliminating both manual pieces.

It is calibrated specifically for PP strap. For PET strap there is the specific seal with internal serration (serrated seal), because PET is rigid and slick and a smooth PP seal would slip under the actual tension of polyester. Applying this PP seal on PET strap produces closures that don't hold: the pallet leaves the line apparently sealed but loses tension on the first movement. For mixed operations, it's best to keep both consumables differentiated and clearly identified.

No. Metal seals are designed to deform permanently when crimped by the sealing tool, which is what creates the closure. Once used, removing the strap means cutting or forcing the seal, which no longer recovers its original shape or grip capacity. They should be discarded as recyclable scrap metal. For scenarios that need a reusable closure (in-transit adjustments, scheduled reopening), the option is the wire metal buckle, not the seal.

Galvanizing protects against rust under normal conditions of storage, transport and occasional exposure to ambient humidity and sporadic Caribbean rain. For very prolonged storage at a coastal dock with continuous saline exposure, surface oxidation may appear over time, without compromising the seal's closure capacity during the regular shipping cycle. In normal logistics operations, the seal keeps its mechanical integrity throughout the full transit cycle.
