Palletizing goods in the warehouse or coordinating the shipment of bundled product demands a film that stretches, grips, and withstands the trip without coming open at the first curve. This transparent hand stretch film—also called stretch film or pallet wrap—is manufactured by Fortemo from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) in 80 gauge (20 µm), designed for professional palletizing in logistics, agribusiness, and commerce in the Dominican Republic.

Key Benefits

  • High stretch capacity: the LLDPE formulation allows the material to elongate by several hundred percent during application, so a single roll covers more pallets without losing holding force.
  • Cling grip onto itself: the inner face adheres to the film's own layer without touching the product, closing the pallet without leaving sticky residue on boxes, furniture, or merchandise.
  • Tear resistance: the film withstands sharp corners, cardboard edges, and irregular edges of mixed goods without splitting open, reducing shrinkage from breakage during the operation itself.
  • Full visibility: transparency keeps labels, barcodes, and inventory references legible without having to cut the packaging open at the logistics center.
  • Professional-grade virgin polyethylene: 20 µm (80 gauge) on a 305 m roll, a standard logistics dimension that fits hand dispensers and wraps several pallets per roll without a changeover.

Typical Applications and Uses

  • Palletizing general merchandise in warehouses, distribution centers, and e-commerce operations.
  • Bundling boxes for consolidated shipments and load consolidation in inter-island transport.
  • Wrapping furniture, appliances, and fragile product during moves and relocations.
  • Securing pipes, profiles, and bundles of material in hardware, construction, and agribusiness.

Quality and Durability

The difference between a premium film and a generic one of the same nominal size lies in the base polymer and in control of the actual gauge. A budget film claims 20 µm but delivers thinner areas that break at the first pull. Fortemo works with virgin polyethylene and rolls of uniform gauge, which translates into fewer gaps in the pallet, less time lost rewrapping, and less loose product in the truck.

Also known as: Technical: hand stretch film, stretch film, stretch wrap film, pallet wrapping film, LLDPE stretch film, packaging film. In DR and Caribbean: papel chicle, plástico de embalar, plástico para paletizar, plástico stretch, plástico para envolver palets. In other countries: stretch wrap (USA), pallet wrap (USA), vinipel (CO), emplaye (MX, CO), envoltura plástica industrial (LATAM).
Is it suitable for direct contact with unpackaged food?

No. This film is designed for secondary packaging: palletizing, grouping boxes, securing goods with their own packaging. For direct contact with unpackaged food (fresh meat by weight, cut fruit, sliced cheese) you need a specific food-grade film, certified for that migration. This roll covers any professional palletizing of packaged product, including foods that are already bagged, boxed or protected by their own primary packaging.

What's the real difference vs. a generic film also rated at 20 µm?

The difference lies in the base polymer and the consistency of actual gauge. A budget film advertises 20 µm but delivers thinner spots that break when stretched; the polyethylene is usually lower-purity recycled material and cling fades after a few wraps. This roll uses virgin LLDPE polyethylene with factory-controlled uniform gauge, which translates into fewer pallet failures, less breakage during application and more usable length per roll.

Does the pallet hold up outdoors with direct sun and occasional rain?

For temporary outdoor storage (days, not weeks) it protects against light rain and ambient dust without problems. For prolonged exposure under direct Caribbean sun, clear film without specific UV additive becomes brittle and loses structural strength within weeks, especially in coastal areas. For pallets that will stay outdoors for weeks or months, it's better to use UV-treated black film or cover the load with an additional tarp.

Is clear film always best, or are there cases where black makes more sense?

Clear film is the default when the priority is visual identification of contents (high-turnover warehouses, inventories, code reading without cutting the wrap). Black film makes sense in three scenarios: when the pallet's contents have sensitive value and visual deterrence matters, when the product needs light protection (certain chemicals, electronics, UV-sensitive items) and when the pallet will be exposed to sun for long periods. For general standard logistics, clear film does the job.
