Closing cardboard boxes for daily shipments and storage with an opaque, resistant seal that will not peel off in transit requires a brown packing tape calibrated for intensive use. This brown polypropylene (PP) adhesive tape —also known as cinta havana, cinta canela or brown packing tape— is manufactured by Fortemo from BOPP film with acrylic adhesive, in widths of 2 and 3 inches (50 and 76 mm), designed for warehouses, e-commerce, moving and high-volume packing.

Key benefits

  • Opaque seal: the brown color conceals the contents and gives packages a uniform appearance.
  • No yellowing: the acrylic adhesive maintains adhesion and color without drying out or turning yellow in storage.
  • Tough film: the calibrated BOPP withstands tension and tearing during manual sealing of heavy boxes.
  • Even unwind: suitable for continuous work with or without a dispenser.
  • Standard 76 mm core: compatible with hand tape guns and carton sealers.

Typical applications and uses

  • Sealing cardboard boxes in e-commerce, logistics and courier services.
  • Bundling and reinforcing packages during moves and storage.
  • Repetitive packing on high-volume dispatch lines.
  • Sealing where concealing the contents is preferred for privacy or presentation.

Quality and durability

A cheap packing tape fails when the adhesive loses tack in storage or the film snaps under tension. Fortemo works with professional-grade BOPP film and calibrated acrylic adhesive to maintain adhesion and color clarity without yellowing, which is what sets a serious tape apart from a low-cost one that peels off in transit.

Also known as: Technical: brown packing tape, brown packaging tape, brown carton sealing tape, brown BOPP tape. In DR and Caribbean: cinta havana, cinta canela, tape marrón, cinta de empaque marrón. In other countries: cinta canela (MX), brown packing tape (USA), cinta marrón de embalar (ES).

Does it hold heavy moving boxes or only light parcels?

For standard and mid-weight boxes it copes without trouble using an H-seal (three transverse strips and two longitudinal) on regular corrugated cardboard. For very heavy boxes with dense contents (books, tools, compact appliances), go for the 76 mm width or several passes of 50 mm reinforcing the bottom, because the real limit is the cardboard's tear resistance, not the BOPP film. For prolonged storage under weight, check the closure periodically.

When is brown tape better than transparent?

Brown does the same mechanical job as transparent (same BOPP with acrylic adhesive) but adds opacity: it conceals the contents of the box, hides previous closures and gives parcels a uniform look, especially on kraft cardboard where the color blends in visually. Transparent is the choice when you need to read labels or codes placed under the tape. For e-commerce and moves where the privacy of the contents matters, brown is the usual pick.

Which width should I choose: 50 mm (2 in) or 76 mm (3 in)?

The 50 mm roll is the standard for shipping boxes and general parcels: it balances consumption and grip, and fits any manual dispenser. The 76 mm covers more surface per pass and suits large or heavy boxes, wide flaps and bulky moving loads, where a narrow tape forces double passes. Both presentations come with 100 m per roll, in cases of 72 rolls (50 mm) and 48 rolls (76 mm).

Does it withstand ambient humidity and condensation in the warehouse?

Once applied and well pressed onto dry cardboard, the tape withstands ambient humidity and moderate condensation without peeling, the typical condition of warehouses in the DR's tropical climate. The critical moment is application: if the box is damp, dusty or greasy, initial adhesion is poor and the tape lifts within days. The acrylic adhesive also keeps its adhesion and color without drying out in storage. For maximum grip, always apply on clean, dry cardboard.
