Achieving uniform germination and vigorous seedlings in professional propagation requires a substrate with fine structure, low salinity, and adjusted pH, capable of retaining moisture without compacting. This germination substrate —also called seedling substrate, propagation peat, or seedling mix— is manufactured with first-selection Baltic peat, with H3-H6 humification controlled in our own laboratory, and designed for professional nurseries, automated seedling lines, cuttings, and propagation of horticultural and ornamental crops in the Dominican climate.

Key benefits

  • Fine, uniform structure: sifted fraction that favors intimate seed-substrate contact, even germination, and root development without physical barriers.
  • Premium raw material: Baltic peat selected at origin, free of weed seeds, pathogens, and impurities. This is the difference between a serious propagation substrate and a generic bagged soil.
  • pH 5.5–6.5 ready to sow: calcitic and dolomitic limestone correct pH and provide assimilable calcium and magnesium, with no need for additional amendments.
  • Low, balanced fertilization: low NPK level with microelements, enough for germination and the first growth phase without overwhelming young seedlings.
  • Fast, uniform hydration: substrate design that ensures rapid wetting and re-wetting, improved drainage, and maximum uptake of the fertilizer applied.

Typical applications and uses

  • Professional propagation in modular trays and automated seeding lines.
  • Propagation of vegetable, ornamental, and aromatic crops in commercial nurseries.
  • Cuttings, pricking out, and early transplanting of seedlings to cells and small pots.
  • Golf course conditioning as top dressing and as an amendment for heavy clay soils.

Quality and durability

A generic germination substrate fails on two critical fronts: irregular particle size that produces early compaction, and out-of-range electrical conductivity that burns young roots. This peat is selected at origin by H3-H6 humification grade, sifted into a uniform fine fraction, and enriched with dolomitic limestone and wetting additives through production processes controlled in our own laboratory. That careful manufacturing chain is what separates a professional substrate from anonymous seedling soil that ruins expensive seeds.

Factory specification

Model SF1 (Standard Suliflor line). Substrate made from dark Baltic peat extracted from raised bogs, with H3–H7 humification on the von Post scale, formulated at the factory as slow-drying peat — the key characteristic that positions it as a reference in warm climates where a light peat would dehydrate between waterings. Under Caribbean conditions water evaporates more slowly, seedlings undergo less water stress, roots develop with stable moisture, and the propagation operator gains margin in irrigation frequency. Dark peats also deliver a higher concentration of humic acids that stimulate rooting, and superior buffering against occasional spikes of fertilizer in the irrigation water. Designed from origin for automated seeding lines, propagation of vegetable crops, and ornamental seedlings.

Also known as: Technical: propagation substrate, seedling peat, professional germination substrate, peat substrate, propagation medium. In DR and Caribbean: tierra de semillero, sustrato para germinar, tierra para plántulas, turba báltica fina. In other countries: seedling mix (USA), propagation substrate (USA/UK), seed starting mix (USA), sustrato de siembra (ES/LATAM).
