Sealing seams, overlaps and patches of HDPE geomembrane, composite membrane and drainage boards on site —where you can't always bring wedge or extrusion welding equipment and where the joint must end up as watertight as the liner itself— calls for a hot-melt adhesive formulated for geosynthetics. This hot-melt adhesive —also called hot-melt glue for geomembrane or geotechnical adhesive— comes in a bucket with a built-in electric heater and is designed, in the MOLTEXO line, to permanently bond waterproofing membranes, composite membranes and drainage boards with a high-strength, low-permeability joint.
Key benefits
- A joint as watertight as the liner: permeability coefficient ≤3.5 × 10-12 cm/s on a PE membrane joint, on par with the base material.
- High bonding strength: adhesion ≥1.5 MPa and shear strength ≥0.4 MPa (high-strength versions ≥0.8 MPa); often the base material fails before the joint.
- Withstands water immersion: strength retention ≥80% after 7 days submerged, suitable for permanent hydraulic works.
- Handles hydraulic-works and landfill pressure: watertightness pressure ≥0.8 MPa with a 5 cm bonding width.
- Bucket with built-in electric heater: when you open the lid, the adhesive already has two heating elements (probes) inserted and a plug with cable ready to connect; it melts inside the bucket itself, with no need to transfer it to another container.
Technical indicators (TDS)
- Peel strength (2 h): ≥4.0 kN/m (or base material failure); high-quality products reach 5–6 kN/m.
- Shear strength (2 h): ≥0.4 MPa (or base material failure); high-strength versions ≥0.8 MPa.
- Adhesion strength: ≥1.5 MPa; retention ≥80% after 7 days of water immersion.
- Watertightness pressure: ≥0.8 MPa (5 cm bonding width); suitable for water conservation and landfill anti-seepage.
- Permeability coefficient: ≤3.5 × 10-12 cm/s (PE membrane joint), equivalent to the base material.
Applications and typical uses
- Sealing overlaps and joints of HDPE geomembrane where welding is not applied.
- Bonding composite membrane (geomembrane + geotextile) and patch repairs.
- Joining drainage boards and sheets and their accessories.
- Repairs and finishing in water-conservation and landfill anti-seepage projects.
Quality and durability
A generic adhesive fails when it loses grip under prolonged immersion, when the joint becomes more permeable than the liner, or when it doesn't reach a uniform application temperature. This adhesive retains ≥80% of its strength after 7 days in water, seals with permeability equivalent to that of the base material and melts in its own bucket with the electric heating elements integrated, conditions for auditable joints in hydraulic and waterproofing works.
