Watering fruit trees with buried irrigation, or with a long-life system that withstands multiple seasons —where flat tape becomes brittle after one harvest and has to be replaced— requires a thick-walled polyethylene drip hose with a double-outlet cylindrical emitter that tolerates low-quality water. This standard drip irrigation hose —also known as heavy-wall drip line, integrated drip tubing, or cylindrical drip hose— is manufactured by Gardese from LDPE, 16 mm diameter and 1 mm thick (4000 gauge), with double-inlet, double-outlet cylindrical emitters (1.6 L/h flow rate), a coefficient of variation Cv ≤ 5%, in two spacings (30 and 50 cm), in 500 m rolls, designed for fruit trees, professional landscaping, perennial crops, and urban gardens.

Key benefits

  • Heavy-wall thickness (1 mm, 4000 gauge): withstands multi-season use, occasional tractor passage over the line, pulls from agricultural equipment, and years of continuous Caribbean sun —a decisive advantage over 120-gauge drip tape that lasts only one season.
  • Anti-clogging double-inlet cylindrical emitter: two independent water-intake points sustain flow even if one is partially clogged, a critical condition for well water, hard water, and sediment-laden sources where flat tape consistently fails.
  • Double outlet with no installation orientation: water exits both sides of the cylindrical emitter, eliminating the need to orient the line during laying and significantly reducing installation time on extensive projects.
  • Cv ≤ 5% per manufacturing standard: the coefficient of variation guarantees that every emitter delivers practically the same flow rate —an audited requirement for crop uniformity in demanding projects and export production.

Typical applications and uses

  • Fruit trees and permanent plantations: citrus, mango, avocado, papaya, palm —with irrigation lasting years.
  • Professional residential landscaping with garden borders, decorative rows, and irrigated green areas.
  • Row crops with a multi-season plan where flat tape requires replacement after every harvest.
  • Urban gardens, hydroponics, and sustainable agriculture projects with a long-term installed irrigation system.

Quality and durability

An economical drip hose fails on two counts: the polyethylene is low-density recycled material without UV additive (causing breakage from embrittlement after months in the sun), and the emitters have irregular manufacturing with high Cv (causing dispersed flow and over- or under-irrigated zones along the same line). Gardese uses 4000-gauge LDPE with UV additive and emitters with Cv ≤ 5%, which separates a drip hose built for multi-season projects from a generic dripline that fails in its first season.

Also known as: Technical: heavy-wall drip line, heavy wall dripline, integrated drip tubing, cylindrical drip hose, dripper line. In DR and Caribbean: manguera de goteo, manguera de riego, tubería de goteo, manguera con emisores. In other countries: drip line (USA), drip tubing (USA), heavy wall dripline (USA), manguera de goteo (LATAM), tubería de goteo (LATAM), poliducto de goteo (MX), tubo de goteo (ES).

Three concrete advantages. First, the hose does not need to be oriented while unrolling because water comes out of both sides of the emitter, saving time and eliminating errors on extensive projects. Second, it ensures even distribution over the soil: water to the right and left of the line, useful for crops with wide spacing where a wider wet bulb is preferable. Third, redundancy: if one outlet clogs with sediment or soil, the other keeps irrigating, maintaining continuity without halting the whole system.

Yes, it is the preferred option over flat tape. The cylindrical emitter has a double independent inlet that keeps flow going even if one of the two partially clogs with fine sediment, an anti-clog advantage superior to single-inlet emitters. For Caribbean well water (with mineral load, iron, fine sand), it pays to combine with manifold filtration at a minimum of 130 microns and to inspect the filter weekly in peak season. Flat tape does not hold up to that water quality without clogging continuously.

Yes. The heavy-wall hose in gauge 4000 (1 mm thickness) carries a UV additive and is sized for several continuous seasons under full Caribbean sun, a direct advantage over flat tapes in gauge 120 that turn brittle in a single season. To maximize service life, avoid unnecessary friction with stones or tools and keep manifold filtration in good condition. When partially buried under soil or mulch the durability is even higher, since direct radiation is reduced.

Cv (coefficient of variation) measures the flow spread among emitters on the same line. Cv≤5% means practically every emitter delivers the same amount of water within a very tight margin, a critical condition for crop uniformity. Without that demand (products with Cv 10-15%) some plants receive more water than others and patches of the field show uneven growth. For professional agronomy and agro-export where crop calibration matters, low Cv is an auditable requirement; for a family vegetable patch it's a luxury but not decisive.
