Anchoring geocells, anti-erosion blankets, geogrids, and organic blankets to the ground on slopes and embankments with a robust system that withstands the thrust of the geosynthetic and runoff from intense rains for years, without the piece detaching or the upper end deforming under hammering impacts, requires a functional custom-cut construction steel rebar. This rebar—also called a rebar stake, cut corrugated rebar, or steel anchor pin—is manufactured by MOLTEXO from construction steel, 50 cm in length, in packs of 50 units, designed for professional anchoring of geosynthetics in civil engineering, slope stabilization, and technical landscaping projects.

Key Benefits

  • Construction steel with corrugated surface: The exterior corrugation significantly increases friction with the surrounding soil, preventing the rebar from loosening or pulling out due to traffic vibrations, rain runoff, or soil settlement over time.
  • Cut to 50 cm with no on-site waste: Calibrated length for typical soft to medium soils in the Caribbean, avoiding manual cutting on-site which consumes operator time, generates metallic waste, and produces ends with dangerous burrs; sufficient length for firm anchoring under the geosynthetic.
  • Mechanical resistance to driving: The steel withstands hammer or sledgehammer blows without permanent deformation, a critical condition compared to low-quality steel bars that bend at the head on the first blow and invalidate the insertion of the anchor cap.
  • Compatible with complete anchoring system: Designed for use with MOLTEXO anchor caps, forming a professional anchoring system without the need to manually bend each end into a J-hook during construction.
  • Versatility of applications beyond geosynthetics: Also useful for staking light formwork, demarcation in topography, securing sediment barriers, and localized reinforcement in gardening structures.

Typical Applications and Uses

  • Anchoring geocells, geogrids, synthetic geomats, and bio-blankets on slopes and embankments at risk of displacement.
  • Securing erosion control nets on slopes during the intense rainy season in the Caribbean.
  • Staking light formwork, molds, and topographical references in civil engineering works.
  • Securing sediment barriers in excavation and construction works.

Quality and Durability

An economical anchor bar fails in two points: the steel is of inferior quality with low mechanical resistance (which causes deformation at the head during driving and invalidates cap insertion) and the surface corrugation is deficient or absent (which significantly reduces friction with the soil and allows the bar to loosen with settlement or vibrations). MOLTEXO works with construction steel with standard corrugation, which distinguishes a professional construction anchor bar from generic steel that bends on the first blow.

Also known as: Technical: rebar stake, corrugated rebar cut, steel anchor pin, ground stake, geosynthetic anchor pin. In DR and Caribbean: varilla metálica, varilla cortada, hierro de anclaje, varilla para geocelda. In other countries: rebar stake (USA), ground stake (USA), steel anchor pin (USA), varilla de anclaje (LATAM), barre d'ancrage (FR), pín de fijación (LATAM, ES).

Compatible with most geosynthetics that need ground anchoring: confinement geocells, biaxial geogrids, synthetic erosion mats, coir blankets, anti-erosion mats and erosion-control mesh on slopes. Full anchoring system: the rod is driven vertically through the geosynthetic openings to the depth needed for soil firmness (50 cm standard for soft soils, shorter for compact ones), and the MOLTEXO anchor cap is inserted on the upper end of the rod, creating a retention head that presses the geosynthetic against the ground. The rod + cap combination is the standard professional solution.

In most typical Caribbean soils. The steel rod is rigid enough to penetrate clays, topsoil, compact sandy soils, calcareous soils typical of the Dominican Republic and soils with moderate-sized gravel. In terrain with very hard rock, rocky outcrops near the surface or extremely compacted soil, an auxiliary tool may be needed for pre-drilling: electric rotary hammer, masonry drill or manual pre-perforation with a punch. Anchor density per square meter depends on slope and soil firmness: steep slopes with soft soil require higher density to prevent the geosynthetic being washed away by runoff during the rainy season.

Basic tools for most installations. For soft and medium soils: a 1-2 kg construction mallet or hammer, enough to drive the rod vertically with light blows without bending the steel or tearing the geosynthetic. For compact soils: a heavier sledge (3-5 kg) that provides inertia for efficient penetration. For extremely hard, rocky soils or stone near the surface: an electric rotary hammer with a masonry bit for pre-drilling, avoiding rod deformation and reducing operator effort. Recommended PPE during driving: work gloves, closed safety goggles (to prevent metal chips from flying), safety boots.

It is standard construction steel without anti-corrosion coating. The surface oxidation that appears after installation, with soil moisture, is normal and technically convenient: the rust layer increases the friction of the steel against the surrounding soil, improving long-term anchor hold. For permanent applications, surface oxidation does not compromise structural integrity within the typical project timeframe (years to decades) or anchoring force. For critical applications with extreme declared service life or chemically aggressive soils (contaminated industrial zones, soils with strong acids), galvanized rod by specific design may be appropriate — not included in this standard product.
