Preparing custom substrates, giving body to sandy soil or lightening a clay one calls for a solid organic raw material, not a ready-made formulated product. This blonde peat —also known as sphagnum peat or peat moss— is exactly that: low-decomposition sphagnum peat with a medium granulometry, the base ingredient with which the grower builds and corrects their own mixes and soils. It arrives in its natural state, without lime or fertilizer, so you can define the recipe.

Son materiales distintos. La turba rubia es clara, fibrosa y de baja descomposición, y se vende sin tratar para que usted controle la receta: cuánto encalar y cuánto fertilizar. La turba negra de los sustratos universales o de germinación está más descompuesta y ya viene encalada y fertilizada, lista para sembrar. Elija turba rubia si quiere formular su propia mezcla o acidificar un suelo; elija un sustrato ya formulado si quiere algo listo para usar.
¿Es apta para huertos y cultivos de consumo?
Sí. La turba rubia es un material orgánico de origen 100% vegetal, sin químicos añadidos, y se usa habitualmente como base de sustratos para hortalizas, aromáticas y frutales en maceta. Eso sí, recuerde que es un ingrediente, no un sustrato terminado: para cultivos de consumo debe encalarla al rango 5.5 - 6.5 y aportarle nutrientes con un fertilizante o compost antes de plantar.
¿La turba rubia caduca o pierde propiedades almacenada?
No caduca. Mientras se mantenga seca y dentro de su paca cerrada, conserva su estructura, su acidez natural y su capacidad de retención de agua de forma indefinida. Si llega a resecarse del todo, volverá a repeler el agua: bastará rehidratarla poco a poco para recuperarla. Lo que sí evoluciona es la turba ya mezclada con cal y fertilizante, que conviene usar en pocas semanas.
¿Sirve como sustrato para cactus, suculentas y orquídeas?
Sirve como uno de los componentes, no como sustrato único. Cactus y suculentas necesitan un medio muy drenante: la turba rubia aporta retención de agua, así que debe combinarla con una proporción alta de material mineral como perlita, pumita o greda volcánica. Las orquídeas epífitas piden sustratos a base de corteza; para orquídeas terrestres, la turba rubia puede entrar en la mezcla en proporción moderada.
